Pekka

Insider, Pekka was hanging out in the Ranta-Mari restaurant. Over the week he was our friend and best local information guide.

When we meet him he is off duty: he has a job as an expedition ski-doo driver at the Lapland Safari in Saariselkä about 80km south. He is used to speaking English to tourists often, but being local and sitting with him means that others also starting talking to us in the hotel bar.

Pekka is waiting on a computer to be built. Each time we ask, the guy who is building it hasn't called. "Hopefully it would be ready soon, maybe tomorrow."

He helps via a friend of his friend to arrange a lift to Ivalo, so we can attend the Orthodox service on the Saturday morning.

He suggests a good place to see the Northern Lights next to the lake.

After we left Pekka got his computer and camera. Now he is keeping in vitual contact and sending us mails and pictures from his new computer.
